Operation Freedom 2

Jim Morbach, associate director of government and field recruiting, recently presented the keys to the second Operation Freedom truck, Freedom 2, to professional driver and U.S. Marine Corps veteran David Green of Hot Springs, Arkansas. This truck will be driven across the country delivering freight to customers while bringing awareness to our military recruiting program, Operation Freedom.

Green has been driving for Werner since 1991 and has been a trainer since 1992. He enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience with new drivers and has trained over 200 student drivers. He is a current Road Team Captain and has also received the award for 2 million safe driving miles.

In his acceptance speech, Green stated he was honored to be chosen to drive Freedom 2 and said he would pledge to do his best. He said he sees the Operation Freedom program as a “win/win” for the Company and for veterans.

When asked what it meant to him as a veteran to be chosen to drive Operation Freedom 2, David said it is a way for him to give back to the veterans. He said he can also be of help to other veterans as he knows what it is like to transition to civilian life and start a new career. He has found parallels to his military career and his career as a professional driver. In both professions, he has been entrusted with expensive equipment and freight. He also received excellent training and structure as a driver, much like his military training.

He is most excited about getting to meet what he considers the real heroes-those who volunteered during a time of war- as he drives Freedom 2. As a veteran and the father of an active duty Marine soldier, he says he thinks about those deployed every day and he can relate to what parents of soldiers go through.

Green has been married to his wife Cindy for 16 years and has two children. He has one daughter, Tabitha. His son, Christopher, is currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.
